The Root Trolls

The relatives of the tree trolls

As their name suggests, this species of troll resembles large roots and as such they can usually be found below the earth. As with the tree trolls, it is unclear which of the nine Nordic worlds the trickster god Loki took the root trolls from when he created Rulantica.
Root trolls have a special ability: they are able to use bioluminescence to illuminate plants and mushrooms. This is practical to bring at least a little light into Rulantica’s cave system.
